Scranton Library Classroom Renovation

The Penn State University - Scranton Library Classroom Building currently houses both the campus library and the nursing program. The facilities are outdated and ill-suited for nursing clinical studies. The exterior site consists of an outdated loading dock facility that makes for an unappealing entrance to the nursing program.

As part of the overall design program, the site challenge is to create two separate entrances, one each for the library and nursing program, at two different elevations, and to integrate both into the campus pedestrian network.

Steep slopes afford amazing views of the valley below, but create challenges to providing ADA accessibility.

The landscape design provides an elegant yet simple layout of stairs and walkways that provide universal access and seating areas.

The existing loading dock makes for an unattractive entrance to the nursing program.
